A reckless drunk driving incident created panic on NDA Road in Pune’s Warje area after a 25-year-old man allegedly rammed his car into multiple vehicles before attempting a dangerous escape. According to police, the accused, said to be under the influence of alcohol, struck at least four vehicles while driving from Shivane towards Warje, leading to heavy traffic congestion and chaos on the busy stretch.

The alarming situation came to light when Senior Inspector Raghvendra Kshirsagar of Uttamnagar police station noticed the commotion while heading towards Shivajinagar court. As traffic police tried to stop the vehicle near Warje chowk, the driver allegedly accelerated instead of pulling over. In a dramatic turn, a traffic constable grabbed the passenger-side handle and climbed partly inside the moving car in an attempt to stop the accused from causing further damage.

Police teams immediately launched a chase, fearing more collisions on the crowded road. After a brief pursuit towards Ambedkar chowk, the vehicle was finally intercepted and the constable was rescued safely. A medical examination later confirmed that the driver had consumed alcohol, following which an FIR was registered under relevant sections for rash and drunk driving.

The incident has once again raised serious concerns about drunk driving and road safety in Pune, with citizens demanding stricter night patrolling, more breathalyser checks, and tougher action against reckless motorists. Authorities say the case will be pursued strictly to send a strong message against such dangerous behaviour.
