Air India and IndiGo have issued travel advisories warning passengers of possible delays and cancellations after Iran temporarily shut its airspace amid escalating regional tensions and widespread protests. The sudden closure has disrupted major international air routes, forcing airlines to reroute flights that normally pass through Iranian airspace while travelling between India, Europe, the United States, and parts of West Asia.
Iran’s airspace is a crucial corridor for long-haul international flights, and its closure has resulted in longer flight times, increased fuel consumption, and operational challenges for airlines. In some cases, alternative routes are not feasible, leading to cancellations, especially for long-distance services. Both Air India and IndiGo confirmed that their operations are being closely monitored and adjusted in real time to ensure passenger safety while minimising disruption.
Passengers have been advised to regularly check flight status through official airline channels and to stay informed about rebooking, rescheduling, or refund options. Airlines have also urged travellers to arrive early at airports due to possible schedule changes and extended flight durations. Customer support teams have been strengthened to handle the surge in passenger queries as uncertainty continues.
The disruption comes at a time when global aviation is already navigating geopolitical tensions and airspace restrictions across multiple regions. Several international carriers have also altered their routes to avoid Iranian airspace, adding pressure to congested alternative corridors.
Airlines stated that normal operations would resume only after authorities reopen the affected airspace and conditions stabilise. Until then, passengers travelling on international routes are advised to plan flexibly, allow buffer time, and remain updated through airline notifications as the situation continues to evolve.
