Blue carbon refers to the carbon dioxide naturally absorbed and stored by marine ecosystems like seagrass meadows, seaweed forests, and coastal plants. Traditionally, evaluating blue carbon involves slow manual surveys, expert divers, and extensive data analysis. Fujitsu’s solution significantly speeds up this process by using underwater drones, AI-based image recognition, and real-time environmental modeling.

In field tests, the system achieved over 85% accuracy in mapping seagrass coverage and estimating carbon absorption levels. What makes this innovation impressive is its speed. It can analyze over one hectare of seabed in about 30 minutes, making it nearly 100 times faster than traditional blue carbon assessment methods. This efficiency not only cuts operational costs but also allows for more frequent monitoring, which is crucial for maintaining credible carbon credit certification.
